How can I check a humancollab record myself in 3 minutes, with a real example?
Take a real record: version 2026-10-27 of the Terms of Service, sealed as entry 4 of the public log. With curl, a SHA-256 tool and Node.js you can check that the text you read is the text that was sealed, that the seal is in the log, that the log head is signed and cosigned by independent witnesses, and that it was timestamped on Bitcoin, without trusting humancollab.
How
- Download the text and hash it: curl -s https://humancollab.si/legal/terms/2026-10-27.md | shasum -a 256. The result is 1609cb9363699d9e8651832db1f49bd484a6e805a8bd775818aa1b646d0f0c02.
- Open log entry 4 at https://humancollab.si/api/v1/log/entries?start=4&count=1. Its leaf names the same document, version, address and SHA-256.
- Check that entry 4 is in the tree: the proof is at https://humancollab.si/api/v1/log/proof?index=4&tree_size=6, or run node examples/verify-inclusion.mjs 4 from github.com/furkanYanteri1/humancollab-protocol, which prints included: true.
- Check the signed checkpoint at https://humancollab.si/api/v1/log/checkpoint and the witness cosignatures with node examples/verify-witnesses.mjs; each cosignature is checked against that witness's own key.
- Check the Bitcoin timestamp: download https://humancollab.si/api/v1/log/heads/6/ots and run ots verify -d 28e672ea59ff5402c5128dcb587546aac092215045db2b7b6eca5836f20df40e with the OpenTimestamps client.
Limits
- This shows the text was published in this exact form at that time and has not changed since. It does not show that the terms are fair or that any claim is true.
- The same steps work for any entry; business credentials and human answers have their own scripts (verify-credential.mjs, verify-human-answer.mjs).
